Special hotel deals and great culture, outdoors activity, and dining await seniors, boomers and multigenerational gatherings at this legendary snow resort .

The perfect summer weather, leisurely and active outdoor fun, a great entertainment mix and high-end values offered in Vail, Colorado are no longer a secret. Still, more and more Americans (along with many visitors from south of the border and Europe) are discovering the community in the Gore Range of the Rocky Mountains, just a two-hour drive from Denver.

Vail provides a matchless combination of cultural and sporting opportunities, from top classical music and dance companies to golf, yoga, and hiking. Its bustling pedestrian village allows you to stroll streets lined with apparel, sports and décor shops with signs promising sale

Vail Lodging Discounts

Through September 2009, many luxury hotels in Vail have remarkably discounted prices. For under $200 a night (and occasionally under $100 a night), a couple can book at such properties as the Vail Mountain Lodge and Spa, Mountain Haus, Lodge Tower, Austria House, Vail Plaza, Sitzmark, Tivoli and Christiania. Some hotels offer an extra night when you book 2 nights, or a spa treatment, or other special. See them all at Vail All the Love.

Vail Music and Dance

Culture? The stunning Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater hosts the Vail Music Festival, including appearances by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, through Aug. 4, and the Vail International Dance Festival, with such performers as Savion Glover, Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company, the Miami City Ballet, and tango master Gabriel Missé, July 27- Aug. 11.

If you love jazz, there is a free concert at Vail Square in Lionshead, near the gondola, from Aug. 6-Sept. 3, 2009.

Vail Summer Sports and Recreation

Recreation? Name it and Vail has it – golf (at an altitude of 8,100 feet balls fly farther), hiking trails, bicycle paths, tennis, fly fishing, rafting and so on. Or take a scenic gondola ride (is there any other kind?) to the top of the mountain and experience family activities from horseback and pony rides to a dino dig, mini golf, and disc (Frisbee) golf, to guided nature walks.

For a meditative start to the day, take Maria DeSimone’s one-hour Anusara yoga class Monday or Friday at 9 a.m. outdoors in the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens. It is open to everyone including beginners, costs $12, and attendees should bring their own mat.

Vail Valley and Colorado Locally Grown Food

Freshly grown food? There’s a farmers market in Vail every Sunday and one in nearby Edwards every Saturday. Many restaurants in Vail – Restaurant Kelly Liken and the new Atwater on Gore Creek at Vail Cascade Resort are just two – feature Colorado home-grown cuisine. Others, such as Terra Bistro, spotlight healthy gluten-free specialties.

In short, Vail is an idyllic, value-added Colorado haven for summertime vacations.
