North Tahoe Woos Boomers, SeniorsLake Resorts Offer Many Spa Treatments, Asian MassagesNorth Lake Tahoe resorts and hotels now target boomer and senior travelers with specialized spa treatments and "indulgence" packages along with Sierra scenery
Resorts in the North Lake Tahoe area on the border of California and Nevada have long catered to outdoor enthusiasts, but now some places are trying to woo baby boomers and seniors who visit the Sierras with more spas and luxury travel amenities. Treatments Pamper SeniorsAmong the spas in the region: Aloha Skin Spa in Incline Village. Officials there say many of their clientele are boomers and seniors and also second homeowners. The most popular treatments include the "Sweet Surrender" (sugar cane crystal scrub and aromatherapy massage) and "Kona Coast" (Kona coffee exfoliation, rain shower and deep tissue massage) packages. In Olympic Valley, The Trilogy Spa in the Village at Squaw also offers treatment with a Polynesian tinge. They include the "Lehua Honey- Drenched Steam Wrap" and "Ginger Body Butter" for vacationers who have spent a hard day hiking or cycling through the mountains. The Trilogy has what it calls the Barefoot Bubble Lounge, where spa guests can sip wine, champagne or beer and while receiving fireside paraffin treatments. Boomer MassagesA third resort in the North Tahoe area with luxury personal amenities is the Stillwater Spa at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort in Incline Village. Here, boomers and seniors can take advantage of the "Thai Yoga Massage and Divine Caviar Indulgence." This "age-management treatment" is a massage that blends rhythmic pressure joint techniques and yogic muscle stretching to release tension and increase vitality. The cost is $195 for 80 minutes. The spa has been remodeled recently. Sierra Spas Target Older VisitorsAnother newly remodeled spot is The Spa at Squaw Creek at the Resort at Squaw Creek. A favorite location for conventions and meetings, the resort's spa now features a fresh, luxurious interior along with spectacular mountain views. Its treatment menu includes the "Decadent Dessert Wrap" (vanilla carrot vitamin masque and massage with honeydew body lotion) and "Chocolate Truffle Delight" (organic chocolate body masque and sugar plum massage soufflé). The spa does not say if the treatments are edible, although the descriptions certain make an eager senior's mouth water. Yet another hotel to offer a spa component is the historical Cal-Neva Resort's Euro Spa in Crystal Bay. There are lakefront massages on the deck and the "Dharma Stone Ceremony," a three-hour treatment using hot rocks and essential oils. When guests have had their fill of spa treatments, there are casinos galore on the Nevada side of the lake. North Lake Tahoe is a 45-minute drive from the Reno Tahoe Airport. More info can be found at the regional Web site Go Tahoe North.
