Anyone who has been saving up for an around the world trip should look into this extravagant, bold, exotic yet comfortable voyage that promises only one schlep through airport security, or none, if you live close enough to the departure port of Los Angeles. Shorter segments are also available.

Hikes, Helicopter Touring, Elephant Rides

The expedition "boasts more than 300 tours" in 45 ports and 22 countries. Among the choices on shore, travelers can:

  • take a helicopter over the gorgeous landscape where Lord of the Rings was filmed in Dunedin, New Zealand and ride horseback along New Zealand's coast,
  • hike through the Takitumu Rainforest in the Cook Islands

Aboard Ship – “Six Star luxury”

"The World Cruise excursions are specifically designed to enable travelers to explore, taste and feel each destination," says John Stoll, Crystal's director of land programs, in a press release. He describes the trip as "worldwide adventures with six-star luxury."

In addition, the cruise will feature guest lecturers and performers, language lessons from Berlitz instructors, and a journey through great world cuisines and vineyards including stops in Hong Kong, Fiji, the Napa Valley and Southern Australia's Barossa Valley.

Price: Only $54,135, although the land adventures are extra. Those who don’t have the money or time for the entire journey can choose to join the ship for any of eight segments from 11 to 17 days. These are priced from $5,895 for Australia, New Zealand and the Mexican Riviera, to $11,160 for 22 days along the coasts of Japan, Alaska and British Columbia. The ship embarks on January 21 and returns to Los Angeles May 7.
